The Rich & The Poor

Cambridge is renowned as the city of class, where the brightest young prospects come to study at some of the most aesthetically pleasing buildings in the country. Yet there is a darker side to the city that many associate with wealth.

There are many homeless people in the city of Cambridge, struggling to survive on a day to day basis. Yes this may be through fault of their own, however sympathy must be given for their daily struggle.

I was, and continue to be of the opinion that begging should not be an option. Although this may come across as a harsh opinion, there is reasoning behind it. There are options for the homeless, although they may be limited.

There are places to stay, and schemes to get the unfortunate back on their feet. Clearly though; many homeless people are unaware of these ways to help themselves other than begging... which leads me to think that Cambridgeshire City Council should be doing more to make the homeless aware.

Clearly the vast majority of homeless people did not choose to live in this way, however many are now caught in a vicious circle of alcoholism and worse.

Unless I'm missing a point, something more needs to be done to help these unfortunates... instead of installing new slanted bus stop seats so that people cannot sleep across them.

Russell Brand Tells Cambridge Students "Shut Up You Harry Potter Poofs" At Cambridge Union

Russell Brand appears to be on a political mission, but he is not going to win many people over to his side of thinking with comments such as these.

Brand is well known for his honesty when it comes to opinions, and his sharp tongue struck again... this time in the Cambridge Union Society, at which he was a guest speaker. During this visit he told the educated students to "shut up you Harry Potter poofs", not so articulate for a man who claims to have the ideal solution to the political issues of late.

Everyone knows Russell Brand as a comedian/actor, in which he can use offensive humour repeatedly and nobody would bat an eyelid, however while discussing politics and specifically HIS views on politics this is not going to win over those listening.

Of course this was meant in jest, and it is amusing... but if a figure such as himself wishes to be respected in the world of politics, this is not the way forward.

TOP 5 HANGOVER CURES FOR NEW YEARS DAY

The majority of us will be feeling slightly worse for wear tomorrow morning, so here are my top 5 hangover cures to help ease the pain...

Picture- Rodale News

1. Alka-Seltzer

Every student should have these, and if you don't.. make sure you get some! This should settle your stomach that is sure to be filled with a cocktail of fluids from NYE.

2. Greasy breakfast

When you can finally muster the strength to get out of bed, pop down to your local greasy spoon and get a fry up inside you. This will not only fill you up, but will give you all a chance to remember the embarrassing moments from the night before.

3. Water

All that booze from the night before will leave you feeling dehydrated, so make sure you drink water all day to re-hydrate the body.

4. Sleep/Rest

It's what students do best, so if you are able to have a nap then do! You'll feel a lot better afterwards

5. HAIR OF THE DOG

The last thing you will want to do is drink more booze... but you're a student. Get back on the drink and have another good night.

Have a great New Years Eve, hopefully these tips help your recovery!

Usually leave your room unlocked? Think Again.

In an ideal world, you could pull pranks without comeuppance, but we all know that’s not how university life works.

Most of us have been involved in, or been the victim of minor pranks at university… but few of us have had the patience/brilliance to pull off a prank to this extreme.

Residents of Brunswick house, Cambridge, made the holy grail of The LAD bible for this superb effort; after their roommate went home for a whole weekend, unaware of what was happening in her room. This masterpiece of a prank took 4 people a total of 6 hours to complete, using over 21 metres of tin foil. This was no quick job, with every single item in the room being lovingly wrapped by the residents, including a Playstation controller, a drying rack and a desk chair.

The owner of this now ‘re-decorated’ room returned from the trip back home to find this, and not only did she take it all in good jest, she left it as it was for a month after!

So if you like your room the way it is… ensure you ALWAYS lock it!
You have been warned.
